SHREDDED HEAT

Police shredding

Confidential police documents awaiting shredding have been left unattended on the pavement outside Steelhouse Lane Police station in Birmingham City Centre. Simon Gray goes undercover with words and pix.

Fair play to Steelhouse Lane police station for employing an on-site destruction agency to shred all their confidential waste in situ rather than shipping it off somewhere to do.

But given the current sensitivities surrounding That Sort Of Thing, don't you think they should have been a bit more security conscious than to just pile up the paper in bags clearly labelled 'confidential' - which they then leave on the pavement unattended?

And don't you think they ought to have had somebody like the station's Data Manager around to oversee the process, rather than just leaving the AllShred operative completely unsupervised and alone whilst he stood there piling the bags into the shredder in the bag of the van?
