TORIES KILLED THE VIDEO STAR

14/15-10-2006

It's been claimed that David Cameron's party don't have any policies. If the row over Siôn Simon's spoof videoblog of the Tory leader is any guide, they haven't got a sense of humour either.

Simon's alternative “Webcameron” - aired more than week ago here on The Stirrer - was designed to mock a middle-aged, Eton-educated toff trying to “get down” with the kids by wearing a baseball cap.

Whether it succeeded or not will, I guess, depend on how sensitive your funny bone is. Simon's impersonationof Cameron offering to let viewers sleep with his wife certainly wasn't Spitting Image, but there's an argument that by posting it on this site and You Tube, the Erdington MP was at least in tune with the irreverent spirit of the web.

More so, evidently, than Tory thunderers like Peter Luff and Caroline Spellman who huffed and puffed to the point where the satirical vid has been withdrawn.

Shame on them - and shame on Simon too for giving way.

More, not less, of this kind of stuff might really persuade “da kidz” that MPs are in touch with the modern world.
