"RACIST" BRUM COUNCIL RESPONDS
16-03-2007
The Stirrer's exclusive story about Birmingham Council's racist behaviour towards one of its employees Paul Samuels - who a tribunal ruled was unfairly dismissed and victimised - has brought this response from the local authority.
"The chief legal officer of Birmingham City Council confirms that an employment tribunal judgement was received in February 2007 in relation to 31 racial discrimination and related allegations brought against the Council by a former employee of Legal Services, Paul Samuels.
"The employment tribunal dismissed 28 of Mr Samuels allegations and confirmed that there had been no racial discrimination by the chief legal officer or any other council employee.
"Samuels was dismissed, in 2005, for gross misconduct - which included
victimisation by Mr Samuels of a female member of staff and the use of
totally unacceptable language and behaviour by Mr Samuels towards other
staff and senior managers within Legal Services.
"The Council is considering whether to appeal against the 3 out of the 31
allegations held against it and, as such, it is not appropriate to comment
any further on the case."
