E BAY BANS BANKSY'S PARIS HILTON STUNT

19-09-2006

Internet auction site e-bay has banned the sale of Paris Hilton CD's that have been doctored by Banksy, the legendary British graffiti artist.

Banksy “re-interpreted” some 500 CD covers, either putting a dog's head on the singer's shoulders or showing her topless, and these somewhat subversive versions were quietly distributed to music stores across the country.

They have immediately become collectible, and cynics might even say that for once a Paris Hilton record was worth buying.

The e-bay fraternity certainly thought so, but The Stirrer has been contacted by one would be auctioneer who bought a copy at a store in Birmingham and tried selling it on.

He received an email telling bidding had beenhalted following objections by Hilton's record company Warner Music Group.

They are claiming infringement of copyright and e-bay have dutifully backed down.

Ain't it funny how a website that allows touts to rip-off music and sports fans on a daily basis suddenly develops a conscience when a major corporation gets involved. Though I'm not sure if Paris Hilton wouldappreciate the irony.
