CRUDDAS LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN IN THE BLACK COUNTRY

21-05-2007

Five of the contenders for deputy leadership of the Labour party have launched their campaigns in London - the exception is John Cruddas who’ll be kicking off his campaign tomorrow in Wednesbury.

Against the likes of Hazel Blears, Peter Hain, Hilary Benn, Alan Johnson and Harriet Harman, Cruddas - the only one without ministerial experience - is regarded as the outsider.

He shouldn’t be discounted altogether though, having secured the backing of Britain’s biggest union Unite (an amalgamation of the T&G and Amicus) as well as other influential figures including Ken Livinsgtone and the actor Tony Robinson.

Cruddas will be at the Millennium centre on Friar Park, Wednesbury tomorrow before visiting a local Sure Start scheme and a primary school.
