GOOD NEWS AT LAST FOR AIRPORT

21-06-2007

Good news days have been thin on the ground for Birmingham Airport lately so let’s raise a toast to their staff today – BIA has been named the best in Europe.

The accolade has been awarded by the Airports Council International in the 5-10 million passenger categrory, and following the recent exposure on the “Tonight” programme it’s interesting to note that one of the criteria was security – along with retail, environmental awareness and community relations.

There’s been no shortage of other gongs over recent years – BIA has won the Business Travel World Magazine Award five times, and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation ‘Clean Air Silver Award’ for making its building smoke free before the Government ban on July 1 2007.

Nothing beats the timing of this one though, coming as it does after weeks of negative exposure.

On Tuesday, the Airport announced that it was introducing a new inspection team for third-party contractors and revealed that 13 workers had been fired following the ITV documentary (see our report here)
