JAIL WARNING FOR FLYPOSTING CLUB OWNERS 23-05-2007 Three Birmingham nightclub owners have been told they face the prospect of jail or massive fines jail unless posters advertising their gigs are removed in the next ten days. Daniel Jones, Simon Jones and Francesca Jones who run The Factory Club and Medicine Bar in Digbeth, were summoned to Birmingham County Court on Monday after failing to respond to previous warnings. They were given a ten-day deadline to ensure that posters promoting their events are removed - or face the full force of the law. Councillor Neil Eustace, Chair of the Public Protection Committee, said: “Fly-posting is a problem in Birmingham as in other cities as it makes areas look uncared for and can increase people’s fear of crime. “We have tried to work with these people and they have failed to respond - the company has continued to plaster posters all over our city. “The courts have given a very strong message requiring them in the next 10 days to remove all their posters and if they do it again they will be in contempt of court. Failure to comply may lead to a fine and/or imprisonment.” Are flyposters a useful source of information? Or a kind of hi-tech vandalism? Leave a comment on our Message Board. |
