BELFRY FLAGS UP FIVE STAR AIM 25-06-2007 One of the Midlands most famous landmarks, The Belfry in Wishaw, is to be rebuilt with aim of becoming the Midlands only five star hotel. The Belfry is the English venue for the Ryder Cup so gets massive international exposure every few years - but although it’s known as a decent conference venue, it hasn’t always made the most of its potential. It looks as though that could soon change, with proposals for a swimming pool, gym and spa centre. The existing ivy-clad façade of the building will serve as the entrance to a new golf clubhouse, with rooms for 500 residents being added on behind. As is the normally case these days, every effort is being made to assure us of The Belfry’s environmental credentials with the claim that its carbon footprint will be reduced when the development is finished. Local residents in the surrounding villages will get the chance to see the plans in July. |
