NEW PEACE MARCH FOR BIRMINGHAM

25-08-2007

Birmingham's black community is leading a peace march in Aston next Saturday (September 1) calling for renewed efforts to combat inner city gun crime.

Under the banner "No More Blood On Our Streets", the Council of Black Led Churches will be walking along Birchfield Road in Aston, but stress that people of all faiths are invited to attend.

The aim of the march is to draw attention to the need for a co-ordinated programme of action to various shootings and stabbings which have blighted the area in recent years - not to mention the riot in nearby Lozells two years ago.

Gary Newlove, Isaiah Young-Sam, Charlene Ellis, and Latisha Shakespeare are among the victims of this violence.

CBLC will announce a ten point action plan, involving the community, local and national government, and the police.

The march starts at noon from the corner of Lozells Road and Birchfield Road.
