ALICE IN WONDERLAND, BIRMINGHAM REP

27-12-2006

Reviewers were generally underwhelmed by thisChristmas offering at the Rep, but theyaren't its target audience. So we invited 12 year old Tom Horton from Moseley to give his verdict.

I did not have particularly high hopes for this production as it was aimed at a younger audience, and, unfortunately, my fears were confirmed.

A poor transition from the real world to the dream world started the play off badly, and although this continued throughout the whole performance, things were still to get worse.

With a bad scene with the Mad Hatter, and more of the same with the painters, things were not going well. Things did pick up a bit with the Queen, who displayed some truly amazing operatic skills, but thisscene went on for a little too long for my liking though.

Overall, this performance was not the best. I think the play did not appeal particularly to the younger audience and neither to the older. This show was a bit of a disappointment.
