PERRY BARR SET TO MAKE A SPLASH 28-06-2007
The developers behind the redevelopment of The Rotunda and Fort Dunlop in Birmingham has been selected for an even bigger challenge - the makeover of three rundown tower blocks in Perry Barr. Urban Splash have been chosen by Birmingham City Council to transform three tower blocks on the rundown Birchfield estate. The 270 flats will be converted into “city living” style apartments, which would normally be code for the creation of a new yuppie ghetto. We say normally, because Urban Splash has a reputation for dealing sensitively with decaying properties and rejuvenating them with care and respect for the people who live nearby. So far their work in Birmingham has seen the rejuvenation of the previously derelict Fort Dunlop and a revamp of the Rotunda which is still work in progress. Existing residents in the blocks are being re-housed, with the aim of developing “affordable” housing there once renovation is complete. |
