SPECIAL SCHOOLS “PARENTS VIEWS COUNT” 28-06-2007 Questions have been raised on this website about whether the consultation over the future of Birmingham’s special schools is wide-ranging enough. The city’s Childrens’ Services have contacted us to ensure that as many people as possible are involved. The Consultation with Parents which feeds in to the developing Strategy for Special Provision (SSP) is in full flow. As many will know, the SSP will set out the vision for the future development of special educational provision and is being developed by Birmingham City Council Children's Services, in partnership with a range of stakeholders. The consultation is conducted in an independent way and the next Open Meeting for Parents will be held on: Tuesday 3 July 2007, from 10am-12.30pm at Carrs Lane Church Centre, Birmingham B4. All parents are welcome to attend (no need to book). At this meeting we will be gathering more views from parents about what they would like to see for children with special needs in the future. Also, there are still plenty of opportunities for parents to get involved on Planning Groups, and we would urge parents to consider putting themselves forward for these positions. Unfortunately, at the moment some parents are having to sit on more than one group so that we do not let the opportunity to include parental views pass us by. We need more volunteers! If anyone would like more information about the meetings oropportunities available, please click here or contact us directly via email (ParentViewsCount@aol.com) ortelephone. We would be pleased to hear from you. Sue White -T: 01676 533 565 Juliette Smillie -T: 0777 878 3596 |
