LIFE’S A BEACH FOR BRUM GREENS

29-06-2007

Birmingham’s controversial beach in Chamberlain Square has attracted more critics after opening this week - with the city’s green lobby condemning the sponsors.

West Midlands Friends of the Earth Spokesman Chris Crean is furious that the airline BMI Baby has been allowed to plaster the council run site with advertisements for their various European destinations

In The Stirrer’s weekly Birmingham Mail column he said: “Birmingham Council has made a commitment to becoming a sustainable green city, but look what happens.

“At the first sight of a sponsorship deal for their beach, they sign up with an airline.”

The Stirrer also makes a passionate plea for the Post Office to be run as public service, not a private business.
