£450 MILLION UNLOCKS EASTSIDE 30-05-2008
And still the redevelopment of Birmingham powers ahead – this time with the unveiling of the first designs for new £450 million Eastside Locks project, which features offices, apartment, shops and a hotel, and the long-awaited city park.
Although this proposal has been knocking around for some time now under its previous title VentureEast, it’s now been renamed and outline planning permission finally submitted today. There’s office space provision for small and medium-sized companies, presumably with the aim of building on the strengths of the creative industries based at the nearby Custard Factory. It will also add another 175 hotel rooms to the city, on top of those proposed at the new Beorma Tower (see link here). It’s claimed the project will create 5,000 jobs, and the masterplan will be available for public viewing on Tuesday June 3 in the lower mall of the Bull Ring. DISCUSS THIS ON THE STIRRER FORUM |
