AMIR KHAN (NIA, June 21)

02-05-2008

Amir Khan

Tickets for Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan’s first West Midlands bout go on sale at noon today…and as a bonus there’s a former Blues player on the undercard.

As a patriotic British Muslim, Bolton-born Khan has added box-office cachet and is seen by many as role model for youngsters with Pakistani heritage.

That apart, he’s also a terrific fighter, recognised for his speed, power and dazzling combinations.

He’s already Commonwealth and WBO Intercontinental lightweight champion, and last month became the first boxer to stop Denmark’s Martin Kristjansen in the seventh round in their WBO World title eliminator.

Chief support sees the star of hit TV reality show The Contender Paul Smith defend his English Middleweight title against Steve Bendall in a potentially explosive showdown.

Heading up an action packed undercard is Birmingham prospect Don Broadhurst, a big pal of Khan's from their England ABA days. Broadhurst, the 2006 Commonwealth Games Champion, is unbeaten in seven fights and is one of Britain's brightest young talents.

Another attraction is the former Blues midfielder Curtis Woodhouse currently unbeaten in five fights, who aims to become the first footballer ever to win a British title.

Completing the fight card are Leicester light-middleweight Martin Concepcion and the professional debut of amateur star Joe Selkirk from Liverpool.

Tickets go on sale today, Friday May 2, at 12 noon priced at £40, £50, £75, £100 and £150, subject to a booking fee. Book by calling The Ticket Factory on 0871 945 6000 or online at www.theticketfactory.com.
