AMNESTY POURS COLD WATER ON CIA TORTURE 22-04-2008 Coming to a cinema near you soon – a shocking video of one of the CIA’s favoured torture methods, as approved by George Dubya Bush. The Amnesty film is released as a cinema trailer in May, but it’s available today online. Waterboarding works by partially drowning prisoners and dates back to the Spanish Inquisition. It’s been co-opted by the Americans in the War on Terror, even though they are signatories to the UN Convention on Torture. Attempts to outlaw such “enhanced interrogation” techniques were vetoed by President Bush – even though in 1947, the Yanks themselves prosecuted a Japanese officer who’d been guilty of the practice. The film itself – called The Stuff Of Life – is designed to look like a glossy ad for water or vodka, before the disturbing message hits home. Kate Allen, Amnesty’s UK Director said: “Our film shows you what the CIA doesn’t want you to see - the disgusting reality of half-drowning a person then calling it ‘enhanced interrogation’. “Even for those few seconds, it’s horrifying to watch - the reality, in a secret prison with no-one to stop it, is much, much worse.” To see the film click here http://www.unsubscribe-me.org IS TORTURE EVER JUSTIFIED?
