The future of Birmingham’s Artsfest – threatened with the axe earlier this year – has now been secured. Ray Hassall, the city’s Cabinet Member for Leisure also told Stirrer TV he’s hoping to create a music festival to add to the international dance event announced this week.

This time last year, Hassall said the 2007 Artsfest would be the last, but he was won over by the buzz generated by this year’s event – and he now hopes to go on to build the audience from its current 100,000 to 250,000.

He also said that the dance festival – which will be a biannual event – could be complemented by a music festival – news of which first appeared on this site in September (see link here)

Will the new Dance Festival add to Birmingham’s cultural status?
