BAGGIES SLASH SEASON TICKET PRICES

29-02-2008

The directors of West Bromwich Albion are clearly dedicated readers of this website – just days after we highlighted this season’s disappointing attendances at the Hawthorns, the club announced an 11% cut in season ticket prices.

For season-ticket holders who’ve renewed at the earliest opportunity this is the third consecutive reduction in real terms.  Last season prices were slashed 25%.

It means that if Albion remain in the Championship, a ticket in the Birmingham Road or Smethwick End bought by April 30 and costing £299 will work out at just £13 per match.

If they are promoted, although there are fewer games in the Premiership fans will still get to see home games for an average of under £16 – a bargain.

In truth, Albion’s underlying weekly support is, in historical terms, quite healthy.  We understand the club has more season ticket holders than Blues, and this will help “lock in” the loyalists – especially as there are a limited number of kids season tickets available for just £49.

The trick is to get more part-timers through the door – let’s hope the season ticket price will give the club more scope to offer more attractive matchday options to.

Who knows, maybe even Blues will take note and try and fill their stadium too.
