"COCK-UP NOT CONSPIRACY" OVER WM LISTEN AGAIN 27-10-2007 BBC WM bosses insist there's been no conspiracy to keep its high profile black presenters away from its internet "Listen Again" feature - they've just been scuppered by technical problems. Earlier this week, The Stirrer noted concerns that several high profile African-Caribbean presenters - Bishop Joe Aldred, Nicky Tapper, and Ben Turner - were all absent from the online facility that allows listeners to catch up with programmes they'd missed. In fact only one black presenter is listed - Loyd Williams who presents a general entertainment show - compared to 12 white presenters. The station's Assistant Editor Jeremy Po llock assured us that Joe Aldred's show would soon be put on the system, and he explained, "the Listen Again feature hasn't been working for some time now, but as soon as it is, Joe's programme is the priority. "It's a niche programme and we want it on there are soon as possible" Pollock said. "There's nothing sinister going on. In fact it would have been there weeks ago but for technical problems we've had and it will be available online very soon." See our previous story here |
