COUNCIL STAFF FREEDOM FROM INFORMATION

14-12-2007

Birmingham City Council staff wanting to appeal against their new contracts are having to issue Freedom of Information requests to find out precisely how their pay has been worked out.

The Stirrer understands that when workers try to find out the basis of their revised terms and conditions, management are refusing to make available the comparable data for their colleagues.

Since the only way to find out whether you’ve been fairly judged is to look at how workers doing similar jobs have been assessed, staff are not unreasonably desperate to get hold of the information.

One mole tells The Stirrer that as a result the Council has been inundated with Freedom of Information requests.

But how many?  Dozens?  Hundreds?  Thousands?

The Council isn't saying, so we've been obliged to put in, er, a Freedom Of Information request.
