RUDGE: “NO FUNDAMENTAL ERRORS” ON SINGLE STATUS

16-01-2008

The Birmingham Councillor responsible for introducing the controversial Single Status Pay and Grading Review has told The Stirrer there are no “fundamental errors” in his plan.

Alan Rudge, the Cabinet Member For Equalities and Human Resources, was responding to the latest stories on The Stirrer, highlighting the anger of around 1,000 protestors at a rally on Saturday (see link here)

We reported that the local authority has called for fresh talks with the unions, but this is disputed by Rudge who said, “discussions with the Trade Unions are ongoing and never stopped. I am always prepared to clarify matters and seek common ground.

"I appreciate the Unions are uncertain about our proposals on salary progression and that’s one of the things I could give them some reassurance on last week. I certainly don’t accept that any fundamental errors have been made in the review process.

“I am determined that I will deliver pay equalities, a modern pay structure which rewards people’s contributions and removes the gross overpayments and outdated pay practices which previous Labour administrations failed to tackle."
