COUNCIL PAY DEAL PUT ON HOLD - AGAIN!

28-09-2007

Birmingham Council's Single Status pay and grading review - which could see some workers lose up to £20,000 - has been put on hold, following the decision by a Scrutiny committee to "call in" the latest proposals.

The new wage structure is being introduced following legislation in 1997 aimed at ending inequalities in pay between men and women.

As The Stirrer has reported previously, the plan will create more winners than losers, but the loss of bonuses have caused unrest in some parts of the council, and last month the unions were threatening legal action (see link here)

Council bosses had vowed to give all workers personal details of their new pay settlement the end of this month - having initially pledged to do so last April - but the latest news is likely to put the process on hold again.

The decision to call in the proposals by the Co-Ordinating, Overview and Scrutiny Committee means that once their deliberations are over, the deal will have to be re-submitted once again to Cabinet for approval - leaving 55,000 workers in the dark once again.
