BLIND DAVE ON THE RADIO

23-01-2007

Regular Stirrer contributor Blind Dave Heeley can be heard in a BBC Radio WM documentary tonight, marking his decision to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.

Dave from West Bromwich aims to become the first disabled runner to achieve the feat, previously managed only by Ranulph Fiennes and his running partner Mike Stroud in 2003.

Since announcing the marathon Dave has had terrific local coverage, with full-page articles in the Express and Star, Birmingham Mail and Black Country Bugle. Radio stations from Saga to Beacon's Classic Gold to WM have also interviewed him.

“Now we've got to get the nationals interested” said Dave. “The feedback we're getting is that they won't really be interested until the event is a couple of months away, and then they'll all be knocking our door down.

“But we want the coverage now if only to help us get sponsorship.”

Dave aims to raise funds for the Guide Dogs charity, but needs at least £40,000 just to make the run a reality. Anyone interested in sponsoring him should contact www.justgiving.com/777

Hear Dave on BBC WM's Sportsnight tonight between 8-10pm on 95.6 FM
