POWER FOR THE PEOPLE

21-01-2008

Energy bills are on the rise and the government looks on helplessly, yet at the same time it's more than happy to spend squillions of your money propping up an ailing bank.  Now you know who really holds power in our country muses Brendan Hawthorne.

There’s yet another list of tables

With a myriad of choices that that enables

To find out who’s cheapest on the grid

In this latest out-of-the-blue price rise bid

It all seems so complicated

With some tariffs back or pre-dated

Just to gain an edge on a fickle market

In another rip-off profit-based power-play bet

Gordon’s little world of taxes

Has no regard for service sector axes

One more heating cost crisis for all old folk

is playing yet another sick and maybe costly joke

With the rising price of consumables

Where does that leave our social vulnerables?

Hospitals, day care centres and retirement homes?

Oh yes and let’s not forget those immoral bed-Rock loans

So whilst we’re turning down our heating

Our leaders will hold yet another red carpet meeting

Just to warm the hearts of a few shivering share-holders

While the elderly and vulnerable just get by a little bit colder

And so the expenses-paid in-crowd

Bails out a bank with inland revenue because it’s allowed

As our under-funded essential services fail and falter

We’d better speak out against the rises now or nothing will ever alter
