BRAHM’S REQUIEM (CBSO, Symphony Hall)

17-03-2008

CBSO

It won’t be long before pin-up boy Andris Nelsons wields the baton full time as the CBSO’s new music director, but in the meantime Sakari Oramo is determined to go out with a flourish.

Next Friday and Saturday, in one of his final appearances at Symphony Hall, Sakari will be getting into the Easter mood, pairing Brahms’ greatest choral work: A German Requiem with one of the finest sacred cantatas by Bach, Brahms’ chief inspiration.

The Finnish conductor – recently named the Birmingham Post’s Cultural Figure Of The Year - will be joined onstage by his soprano wife Anu Komsi, baritone James Rutherford, mezzo-soprano Harriet Williams, tenor William Ferguson and The City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus.

Tickets are available from the Symphony Hall Box Office on 0121 780 3333, or online at www.cbso.co.uk.
