BRUM FILM CENSORED AFTER EMAIL SCARE

06-11-2009

The Stirrer can reveal that an anonymous email has been sent to journalists, cinema managers and the police warning of violence if the movie One Day is shown in Birmingham. The film will not now be shown in the city where it was shot.

The email was sent by someone purporting to be the girlfriend of a gang member who claims to fear a bust-up between the rival Johnson Crew and Burger Boys who operate around Handworth and Lozells.

Police sources told The Stirrer earlier this week there was no reason to fear any aggro or heightened tension around the release of the film - which deals with the problems of a local gang member - but as we reported last week, a crime prevention officer (probably in uniform) “warned off" cinema managers who planned to show it.

Despite that, London-based PR company Freud was telling local hacks as late as last Friday that One Day would be screened at both the Empire Rubery and the Showcase chain - as duly reported on this website.

Now both chains have had a change of heart, meaning it can't be seen in the city where it was made.

Karen Fox, General Manager of UK Theaters [sic] said: "Showcase has made the decision not to screen the film 1 Day at its cinemas in the West Midlands region.

"However, we are screening the film in our other UK locations."
