BRUM GETS GREENER 31-05-2008
Green householders in Birmingham have helped the city achieve an 8% annual increase in recycling. Council officials launched Climate Change Week by revealed that more than a quarter of the city’s rubbish is now re-used again. The recycling rate is now 26.81% - 3% above an admittedly modest target - and the aim is to reach 37% by 2012/13. In an attempt to build on this success visitors to the Climate Change Festival – the highlight of which, slightly bizarrely, will be a huge pylon in Centenary Square - will be encouraged to take along plastic bags for recycling. These will be exchanged for a reusable cotton bag. To find out more about the www.climatechangefestival.org.uk DISCUSS THIS ON THE STIRRER FORUM |
