CALL FOR BLACK COUNTRY HERO TO BE HONOURED

13-11-2008

Frank Foley

Campaigners have launched a Downing Street petition calling on the government to honour Black Country Holocaust hero Frank Foley, who died 50 years ago.

Foley was a British spy based in Berlin during the 1930s who risked his life by helping persecuted Jews to leave Nazi Germany, saving thousands from certain death.

As an MI6 agent working undercover at the passport control officer, he forged passports, faked vital travel documents, sheltered people in his own home and even visited concentration camps to get people out.

When Foley retired he moved to Stourbridge, where he lived in anonymity until his death in 1958.

There’s now a memorial to him in the town’s Mary Steven’s Park, but he has never been formally honoured.

You can sign the petition to win him a posthumous award at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/UK-Rescuers/
