Callum O'Connell's Blues Blog CREATIVE BLUES 21-08-2007 With Carson Yeung's takeover still a couple of months away, Blues aren't in any position to start splashing the cash ahead of the transfer window closing. But, says Callum O' Connell, that's exactly what they need to do. Blues' start to the season hasn't gone as well as Steve Bruce or the fans would have liked. A draw and two losses have resulted in us being already condemned into a relegation battle. This is down to the fact we can't beat poor sides like Sunderland and West Ham at home, we don't seem to have a creative player from the midfield apart from Oliver Kapo who is heavily relied on. It's being touted in the media that Wolves' Olifinjana is on his way to Blues, but is this a player we need? Another youthful player that may not cut it in the top flight? The fact that a previous 'possible' target Juan Sebastian Veron is now on his way to the MLS could prove to be a huge loss. We need about three players of top quality to keep us up. In my opinion a striker central defender and central midfielder are the priorities. As Steve Bruce stated earlier this week he's been searching all of the leagues for 'British talent' - has he missed the fact that defender Liam Rosenior is available from Fulham? There's no doubting Bruce's ability as a manager but with our inexperienced squad and lack of points so far, how long is it until fans start chanting 'Carson show us your money'. Is lack of money the answer? Or has the available cash been badly spent. Join the discussion in the Season 07/08 thread on our Sports Message Board. |
