

BIRMINGHAM MAN GETS CBSO WORLD PREMIERE 27-02-2007 John Joubert, one of the great composers of 20th century choral music and a Birmingham resident will have a world premiere performed iby the CBSO n his home city to mark his 80th birthday. Joubert has written internationally popular carols such Torches and There Is No Rose which are among 150 works he's created during his lifetime. Now hisoratorio Wings Of Faith will be performed in full for the first time at - appropriately enough - The Oratory on Hagley Road on March 22. Part One of Wings Of Faith was performed at Symphony Hall in 2000 and was described in the Birmingham Post as “a masterpiece of quality…a gripping oratorio combining the spirits of both Elgar and Britten… and with a sense of liberating ecstasy which is intensely moving”. The CBSO will be joining forces for the occasion with the internationally renowned local choir Ex Cathedra. Recommended.
