CUT UP, CUT DOWN, CUT OFF

14-02-2009

Birmingham’s decision to get rid of the apostrophe from street names is exercising Brendan Hawthorne this weekend – along with the fat pay packets of BBC presenters.

It’s a media fact
That for a lack of tact
A suspension is a hard act to follow

The contract axe
Is on the attack
The BBC’s bitter pill to swallow

The jolly high earners
Those chat show presenters
Are taking the bail-out compromise

A cut in pay
A few thousand we say
To save any permanent bye bye’s

And Gordon will lose
Even more tax revenues
In his bid to hike up GB shares

Will he get so desperate
In his attempt to accumulate
That he’ll have to ring round to the Blairs?
The street sign reduced
Will it all come home to roost
With the loss of many an apostrophe?

Where will it all end
This reduction trend
What will happen to the political back-slapper?

And what will we say
When along comes the day
We want to order that (‘) album by Zappa?
