THE HYPOCRISY OF RAINBOW BRITAIN 31-08-2006 Immigrant influx? Derrick Campbell reckons that's nothing new here- and nor is the whiff of hypocrisy that goes with it.... Immigration is nothing new in Britain; it has taken place ever since the beginning of recorded time. You could logically conclude then, that most if not all of us are either immigrants or descendants of immigrants....'Ouch!' I bet that scared you, but the truth is....I am not trying to scare you I am simply stating what I believe to be a fact that we live in a rainbow Britain and should accept it. To prove it....trace your family tree, back to its roots and see what you come with....if you dare! I am sure you will find a bit of Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Scandinavian, Norse, French, African, Indian, etc. lurking in the shadows....that some of us are probably aware of....but would rather keep secret in case it damages your street-cred. Today the hysteria being whipped up by the conspirators in our midst, such as the popular press or desperate politicians trying to show themselves tough by deceitfully acting concerned at the state of ‘our' country, due to the number immigrants that are coming to this tiny island....in my view are just a bunch of hypocrites. They keep telling us of the ‘THEY's' that are coming here to take our jobs and sponge of the state by getting free houses and handouts. The politicians tell us that our livelihoods under attack by cheap labour...when really the industry bosses are raking in fat profits from these modern day slaves, by paying them a pittance with far less favourable conditions that the die-hard ‘Brits' are prepared to put up with. This behaviour is reminiscent of the Dickensian power of the industry bosses during the 19th century. I wish the politicians would just tell the truth....they know fully well that the economy in this country would suffer, if it were not for a steady flow of immigration, which also helps to replenish the skills base and of course....the ageing workforce, which if my memory serves me right, averages at about 40 years old. I think we need to have an honest and open debate in this country regarding immigration....we should not be afraid of being called racist or xenophobic, this does not always have to be the case....can we just try to be mature. If we are genuinely concerned about immigration state our reason clearly....if we are really frightened about being taken over by the seemingly unrelenting wave of immigrants....then guess what....we already have been....for in everyone of us, there a little immigrant hiding in the gene pool. |
