DIGBETH NOISE WAR OPENS UP ON RAINBOW, CUSTARD FACTORY 26-03-2008 Fears that the Noise Abatement Order served on Digbeth’s Spotted Dog pub would set the tone for the entire district are being realised. Residents of the Abacus Apartments – whose complaints triggered the row in the first place – are now being urged to kick up a fuss about two other late night entertainment venues. Letters have been placed in the public areas of the Abacus block, urging flat-dwellers to write to Environmental Health officers about the sounds coming out of the Custard Factory and The Rainbow over Easter. The row has set neighbour against neighbour in the apartments, which are next door to the Spotted Dog in Alcester Street. Many people decided to live there precisely because it offers a lively atmosphere on their doorstep, and are angry that there are others who’ve moved in expecting suburban tranquillity. “Matt”, for example, says “Some of the people that live here get me so mad - I really hope this latest complaint doesn't go as far as it has done for the Spotted Dog.” In a contribution to the Rainbow pub’s myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/rainbowevents) he writes: “A couple of people are now stirring up trouble for the Custard Factory and The Rainbow, and are approaching the council and environmental health over your Easter weekend events. “It amazes me how someone can move into the city and then complain about noise. If someone has a problem with noise then they should come and have a look at the area before they move in. “It really annoys me how they complain about venues that have been there a lot, lot longer than the Abacus building. “I love The Rainbow, and I have never had any problem with noise from your pub in the past year that I have lived here. I just thought you would appreciate being let in on what some people are up to, and as a resident of the Abacus flats I will give your venue all the support I can.” Join the “Spotted Dog Leads The Way To A Quiet Digbeth” on The Stirrer Forum. |
