DUBLIN AND THE DEMOCRATIC DEFICIT 13-06-2008 So the Irish have said no to the Lisbon Treaty. Is it right that 5 million folk can have such sway in a community of half a billion? The EU encompasses almost 500 million people who together will generate $18.4 trillion dollars of wealth (link to source). The future shape of the way all 27 nations relate to each other has just been substantially decided by the votes of 1.6 million people in Eire.
Does it make sense that so few can shape the future of so many? See the thread on the message board - here |
