QUAKE – DID THE EARTH MOVE FOR YOU? 27-02-2008 Just after 1 o’clock – bloody typical! One of the kids is awake again. Whoops, no they’re not. Have we got burglars then? Nope? So how come the walls are shaking? Blimey, it must be an earthquake. Fortunately for us the West Midlands, the epicentre of the tremor –estimated at 5.3 on the Richter Scale - was in Lincolnshire. That’s close, but not close enough, to cause structural damage in the West Midlands. Effects were apparently felt in London, North Wales and throughout Britain (http://tinyurl.com/2fhlgw). Although we know now why things were going bump in the night, the info wasn’t much help in the wee small hours as we scoured the house for intruders or maybe ghosts. It was the UK’s biggest earthquake since 1984, although Dudley was the epicentre of a 4.8 tremor in 2002. Were you woken up by last night’s quake? Remember 1984 or the Dudley Tremor? Or been in an earthquake anywhere else in the world? Leave a comment on the Stirrer Forum. |
