Get Out More........................................Gig News GLENN HUGHES (The Robin, Bilston June 6) 27-02-2008
Former Deep Purple and Trapeze vocalist comes rocking back to his Black Country roots for a one-off home town gig. The show is a special treat for Robin boss Mike Hamblett who first saw Glenn Hughes performing in Dudley 30 years ago. Hughes joined Purple in 1973, when the band were already well established, but he shared vocal duties with David Coverdale and ensured they enjoyed continued headbanging success – notably with “Burn”, “Stormbringer” and “Come Taste The Band” before the whole thing fell apart in 76. Prior to that, the Cannock-born singer and bassist had starred in funk rock pioneers Trapeze, and since then he’s played with a range of venerable elder statesmen including Gary Moore, Pat Travers and Black Sabbath. He also popped up on KLF’s massive hit a few years ago, “What Time Is Love”. With a new solo album, “Underground Nuclear Kitchen” out in May, the show promises to showcase his blues and soul influences as well as the harder stuff he’s been associated with in the more successful parts of his career. Robin promoter Hamblett is just overjoyed to have booked the gig, saying: “Glenn Hughes is an immense and unique talent, his voice unmistakable. “Since his days with Trapeze when I saw him appear at Dudley Technical College some 30 + years ago as a student, to his great solo works in later years I am a huge fan. “I am very proud then to host Glenn Hughes Midlands, almost home town show here at The Robin 2. It will be an awesome night I am sure.” Tickets £20 in advance from www.therobin.co.uk |
