Birmingham Rep has built a solid reputation for delivering top quality Christmas shows that don't rely on cheesy old gags and predictable punchlines (“Oh yes they have!”) and this festive season is no exception.

Pre-Xmas there's Alice In Wonderland, a joint production with Yorkshire Playhouse and starring award-winning actress Alison Pargeter in the title role. She was briefly Martin Fowler's stalker in Eastenders. This promises to be a visual spectacular, and true to the story's Victorian roots.

It runs from Weds 28 November through to Saturday 30 december.

Picking up the slack in the New Year is a return of the Raymond Briggs' ever-popular The Snowman, first seen at the Rep in 1993 which runs from December 5 through to December 30.
