SARAH PARETSKY (West Brom Town Hall on March 27th)

15-02-2008

The creator of iconic female detective V I Warshawski – US author Sarah Paretsky – is the latest in an increasingly impressive list of authors to pop up for a talk and signing session at West Brom Town Hall.

Paretsky (whose main character does for Chicago what Rebus does for Edinburgh) will be introducing her new book “Bleeding Kansas” – and she’ll be following recent visitors to the venue including Jeffrey Deaver and Rageh Omaar.

V I Warshawski was briefly turned into a movie heroine by Kathleeen Turner in an under-rated 1991 movie, but the expected film franchise never followed.

No matter – her feisty, feminist sleuthing has attracted a loyal following on the page, and Paretsky’s visit – even on a promotional tour – is something of a coup for Sandwell.

Tickets priced £3 (£1.50 concessions) are available from Sandwell Central Library by ringing 569 4911.
