Get Out More................................................Gig News BARBARA NICE (MAC, November 29) 24-11-2007
Fresh from her Edinburgh triumph Birmingham comedienne Barbara Nice heads to MAC next Wednesday – and she has our unqualified recommendation. For those who don’t know, Barbara is the alter ego of Kings Heath’s own Janice Connolly, and is nationally known for her role as Holy Mary in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights. She’s best caught, though, in the live arena where she can make half a dozen gags stretch through the entire evening, simply by interacting and bantering with the audience. As befits a comic who cuts delightfully across the grain of fashionable cynicism, her latest show is all about the virtues of being nice - and it went down a bomb at the Fringe. The Times described her as “a hybrid between Victoria Wood and Mrs Merton.” We couldn’t have put it better ourselves. Tickets from www.macarts.co.uk Have you seen Barbara Nice?
