ALI QUITS YOOBEES 25-01-2008
UB40 singer Ali Campbell has quit the Birmingham reggae giants after 30 years to concentrate on his solo career – although the remaining seven band members have vowed to soldier on. The band famously derived their name from the unemployment benefit form used in the late 70’s, and one of their earliest hits “One In Ten” highlighted the lengthy dole queues of the time. Since then they’ve sold 70 million records worldwide, and had three number UK ones. Hits include "Rat in Me Kitchen", "Red, Red Wine", and "I Got U Babe". The forthcoming UB40 album was recorded before Campbell’s decision to leave and so will still feature his voice.
