AMY WINEHOUSE (NIA Academy, 14 November)

25-07-2007

Now here's a gig worth camping out for …sozzled soul/jazz temptress Amy Winehouse is coming to town.

If you haven’t got her Back To Black album yet, here’s a word of advice, rush out and buy it now.

That will give your four months to get your ears around an amazing crossover of 60’s-style love hangover tunes updated with Noughties naughtiness. She is a baaaad girl, with a great voice.

She’s no stranger to these parts having done a couple of gigs at the Academy, but each show is a one-off - sometime shambling, occasionally awesome.

That’s if it happens at all, of course, because Amy has acquired a reputation for “illness” which has forced the cancellation of several performances - on at least one occasion, her ailment didn’t stop her supping in a pub when she should have been on stage.

She needs no forgiveness for these lapses though - your take her the way she is and love her for it. A true one-off, not to be missed.
