MAXI PRIEST, MILES HUNT

25-09-2007

Not exactly peas in a pod I know, but reggae legend Maxi Priest and ex-Wonderstuff frontman Miles Hunt are both in local gig action shortly - Priest supporting UB40, Hunt sharing a bill with Vinny Peculiar.

Vinny Peculiar

Maxi Priest is the doyen of Lover's Rock, and has had hits with (Cat Stevens') Wild World and Close To You, although he hasn't troubled the single charts for more than a decade.

Still, a useful addition to the Yoobees NEC Arena dates just before Xmas on Thursday December 20 and Friday December 21. Tickets £35 from www.necgroup.co.uk

Hunt's date at The Robin in Bilston (October 31st) has all the makings of a collector's item. The Stourbridge songsmith never endeared himself to the critics during the Stuffies heyday - way too gobby - but they churned out darn fine tunes. These days he's paired up with cellist Erica Nockalls so it's unlikely to be singalongastomp time. Intriguing though.

Headliner Vinny Peculiar strums downbeat tales of love gone sour, and has raided the Manchester indie graveyard for a backing band, with former Smiths drummer Mike Joyce and Oasis guitarist Bonehead both on board.
