The missing sister never existed, being no more than a ruse to trick Spade and partner into chasing after the real prize- the falcon of the title- a statuette inside which is concealed a priceless jewel. However, others are also after the falcon, notably a pair of European gangsters (Lorre and Greenstreet) who will stop at nothing to secure it.
