Get Out More………………………Opera and Ballet SWAN LAKE ON THE BBC BIG SCREEN 30-05-2007 The BBC Big Screen in Chamberlain Square might not be to everyone’s taste, but there’s no doubting that it adds another dimension to the city centre. Tomorrow sees the first of three major summer broadcasts with Swan Lake relayed live from the Royal Ballet - plus a host of local acts. The build up starts at 4.30 with Harmon8 (students from the Conservatoire) followed at 5.15 by Crossroad Collision (multicultural urban jazz) then at 6 it’s the Azaad Dhol Drummers before The Kebvin Ashcroft Band take the stage at 6.45. Swan Lake itself is scheduled for a 7.30 start. There’ll be more local warm-up acts before the broadcast of Mozart’s Don Giovanni from the Royal Opera on Wednesday 13th June at 7pm and Puccini’s Tosca, on Tuesday 3 July at 7.30 pm. Like many people, The Stirrer’s not over keen on the way the screen mutters at you all through the day like a nutter on the bus, but quality screenings like these add real value to town. Bring a rug, a sarnie, and a flask, and you’ll have a great time. |
