HP SAUCE FACTORY FACES DEMOLITION

29-06-2007

The Stirrer understands that Birmingham’s historic HP Sauce factory in Aston is due to be demolished on Monday, to make way for a new business park.

The factory closed earlier this year when the owners Heinz decided to switch production to Holland.

Although there was only a skeleton staff left working at HP when it shut down, this time last year it had 125 workers.

We are still awaiting official confirmation that the wreckers ball is moving in on Monday but trust us - something major is afoot.

There are bound to be calls from conservationists for the landmark tower to be retained, but our sources suggest that many more jobs will be created if the plans go ahead - and that demolition is key to redesigning the site.

More details as we get them.

Should the HP Tower be retained as a great Brummie landmark? Or should we be looking forwards instead of backwards? Leave a comment on our Message Board.
