JAMES (NIA, 13/12/08)

23-04-2008

James

Here’s a comeback few would have predicted 12 months ago. But after a sell-out spring tour, James – who inspired the “must wear” t-shirt of the early '90s are now moving up again into bigger arenas like the NIA.

This band have had hits galore, most notably “Sit Down” and “She’s A Star”, but their story is one of success against the odds.

They spent the 80’s playing dives and building a solid fan base which didn’t translate to record sales.

Part of their live appeal was a sense of hippyish experimentation which never quite translated to the studio, but marked them out as one of the more interesting bands of the emerging Madchester scene.

Never losing faith in their ability, they bought the rights to their third album Gold Mother from a secptical Rough Trade, and flogged it to major label Fontana – who promptly propelled the band to stardom.

After splitting in 2001, they’re back with renewed enthusiasm, a new album Hey Ma and a date at the NIA.
