JEWELLERY QUARTER MUSEUM “ONE OF THE BEST IN EUROPE”

02-06-2008

Birmingham’s Museum of the Jewellery Quarter has been named one the best free attractions in Europe by a leading travel website – news which insiders say will boost the area’s chances of becoming a World heritage site.

Tripadvisor – which aggregates views about the quality of hotels around the world – has also been canvassing readers for nominations about their most enjoyable freebies.

Remarkably, the Museum in Vyse Street in Hockley ranks Number 3

Andy Munro, Operations Director for the the Jewellery Quarter Regeneration Partnership said, “This is brilliant news. We're just working on our new website so this will go up in lights. We’re always keen to attract more visitors so this has got to help us.”

And he added: “It will help our chances of getting World Heritage Status for the Jewellery Quarter too.

"We've been talking to English Heritage about that and it's definitely a plus for us that this is still a working area with lots going on, and the Museum is part of that.
