MOORPOOL SPAWNS HARBORNE WEBSITE

25-03-2008

Harborne residents have brought forward the launch of a new community website because of the ongoing row over the future of the historic Moorpool Estate.

The site http://www.harbornelife.co.uk/ aims to provide a combination of news, listings and information for people who live in one of Birmingham’s poshest districts.

It was due to go online later this year, but has just gone live because the debate about Moorpool – one of the country’s original garden suburbs – rumbles on.

We revealed last May that Moorpool’s owners, a company called Grainger Estates, planned to build 30 houses (see link here)

It later emerged that 36 new properties were planned, and although this figure has now been scaled back to just 16, many local people fear the special character of where they live will be compromised.

The creators of Harborne Life say:  “Due to the current planning application that has been submitted outlining the proposed developments on the Moorpool Estate, the Harborne Life team have made the decision to launch the site early in order to provide the local community with a central place for discussing this and other important issues affecting the Harborne area.”
