NO HONORARIUM – BUT WOLVO COUNCIL WORKER GETS EXTRA £6,000

20-03-2008

Claims that a member of Wolverhampton’s Single Status pay team received a £30,000 honorarium have again been dismissed by a leading city councillor – but he confirmed that one staff member has received retention payments in excess of £6,000.

Milkinder Jaspal, the cabinet member responsible for introducing equal pay, flatly denied persistent suggestions on The Stirrer Forum that a job assessor has been given any kind of bonus or special payment.

But he said that following our enquiries, he had investigated further and discovered that a worker on a temporary contract for the last six years had missed out on an annual retention deal – worth just over £1,000 a year, or around £6,500 in total.

“I’d like to thank the person who raised this honorarium issue with you,” he said.

“It was totally untrue, but it meant that we could give this one worker the money they were due, so I’m grateful to have the chance to rectify that.

“But I would like to stress that there have been no payments over and above the normal course of things.”
