US TO SIGN BRUM OLYMPIC DEAL TOMORROW

American track and field officials will sign an agreement with Birmingham Council officials tomorrow confirming their intention to base their pre-Olympic training camp in the city.

The deal will be inked at a ceremony during a break in the athletics at the Norwich Union Grand Prix at the NIA.

Today’s Birmingham Post reports that since it was announced the Yanks were coming almost a year ago, negotiations have not progressed - and they suggest that other cities may be trying to muscle in.

That’s contradicted by Council insiders who insist that, although the final details of the arrangement have yet to thrashed out, there’s every likelihood the US will be based here – as proved by tomorrow’s signing.
